How to Install R and Rstudio

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to install R and Rstudio for Mac and Windows.

To Install R for Mac

1. Go to cran.r-project.org
2. Click Download R for macOS
3. Select the Latest release - Choose the appropriate version
4. Follow the directions for download
5. When the file is downloaded, click to open the installer. Select Continue to proceed.
6. Once completed, click Close

To Install Rstudio for Mac

1. Go to posit.co
2. Click Download RStudio
3. When the file is downloaded, click to open the installer
4. Drag RStudio into the applications folder

To Install R for Windows

1. Go to cran.r-project.org
2. Click Download R for Windows
3. Select Install R for the First Time
4. For the latest version, click Download R for Windows
5. Select your preferred language for the installation
6. Click Ok and then, click Next
7. The installation will default to your Program Files on your C drive. Then, click Next
8. Choose which installation you would like
9. Specify if you want to customize your startup or just the defaults. Then, click Next
10. Select the folder that you want R to be saved in
11. Click Finish

To Install RStudio for Windows

1. Go to posit.co
2. Click Download RStudio and then, Download RStudio Desktop for Windows
3. When the packet is downloaded, the Welcome to Rstudio Setup Wizard will open
4. Select Next to complete the installation process
